What are the different types of cannabis medicine and how are they used?
Concentrates are highly potent, highly purified oils and extracts derived from cannabis plants and processed into a concentrated form. These can include capsules, dabs, hash, oils, shatter, tinctures, vaporizer cartridges, wax and more. They can be consumed in vape pens, consumed in edibles or used to enhance flower. The Slater Center produces pure concentrated cannabis oil from its in-house laboratory without the use of any cutting agents or dangerous fillers.
Edibles are foods and beverages that are infused with cannabis. They offer an easy, tasty and discreet method for consuming medical cannabis. The effects are often longer and more intense than achieved through other methods of consuming cannabis. However, it’s important to remember that the effects are not immediately felt so do not repeat dosages or you will risk overconsumption of the medicine.
Flower is the trimmed and cured bud of a female cannabis plant. It will vary in appearance, taste and odor based on the particular strain of cannabis. The effects also will vary, depending upon the strain and combination of cannabinoids.
Pre-rolls are what are commonly referred to as “joints.” They are precisely packed with premium flower into rice or hemp paper. They are sometimes enhanced with concentrates, as well. They can be sold individually or in a multi-pack. Many people like pre-rolls as an option to rolling their own.
Topicals are cannabis products applied directly to the skin. They come in different forms, including creams, salves and patches. They are frequently used as anti-inflammatories and for pain relief.
Vape Pens or Vapes
Vapes offer a convenient and discreet way to consume cannabis without generating the strong odors, smoke and ash associated with joints, pre-rolls and pipes. They gently heat the oils in cannabis-derived medicine until they evaporate so they can be inhaled. Some vape pens are disposable while others come with replaceable cartridges and rechargeable batteries.
